Divine Roles - Science/Math

Last week we talked about how as we strive to fulfill our divine roles of sister, brother, daughter, son to the best of our abilities we gain more ability to become our best selves.  We gather light into our souls that help us align ourselves with God's will for us and he helps us to become better.  The choices we make today will help us become the best mothers and fathers we can be in the future.  Throughout our lives we gather and share light.  (stories shared - The Empty Pot by Demi, Cornelia's Jewels and The Story of Cincinnatus from 50 famous stories retold by James Baldwin)

This week we will be learning more about light - it's properties, how it works, what it is and how God uses light to guide, teach and comfort us.

To prepare yourselves for this weeks lesson please do the following with your families:

1.  Make a list of all the things light does for us?  How would life be if we didn't have light?  Go in a dark room.  How does it feel?  What can you do in darkness?  Would you be able to develop your talents in darkness?

2. Watch this video from Elder Bednar about the Patterns of Light.

3. Listen to the words of this song.  Who is the true light?  What properties does God's light have that the light has?  What can we learn from the similarities and differences?

4.  Read this short talk by Pres. Monson  How are you a light?  How can you be a light in your home?  What can you do to add to your light?  How can you use your light to fulfill your divine roles and bless those around you?  How will the light you gather help you to fulfill the divine roles of mother and father in the future?

5.  Create a project to help you remember that one of your divine roles is the be a light!  You could paint a picture to hang in your room, make a quilt block, stitch something on canvas (like we did with the tulip),  you can make a collage of things that bring light into your life.  You can embroider the front on a pillow for your bed.  You can create word art.  Check out my Pinterest board for more craft ideas - and coloring printable for smaller siblings.

*Share what you are working on with our class or bring it to show us.
