Math, Science, and Faith...How Do They Work Together?
How science and faith work together is an important discussion point. Many people feel so strongly about these two individual subjects that they have a hard time finding balance or believing in both. But Albert Einstein said, "Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind." So do they work together or no? Let's see what we can find!

Discuss the following questions with your family:
- Are science and faith independent of each other?
- Why is there so much contradiction between the two?
- What is God's role in science?
Read one or more of these articles by yourself, with your family, or ask a parent to explain them to you:
Come prepared to share your thoughts and feelings about these questions.
*Parents, this is a topic that will be important to discuss as a family with parental guidance. As time goes on, the world will continue to push a science-only based view, so it is important to gain a testimony of how it all fits together. Many children, and even adults, compartmentalize their scientific and faith beliefs without even knowing it. Also, some families may have differing views on specific points in these discussions. That's okay! If possible, please read through some of the articles above with your children. We will be discussing this a bit in class, but I feel like this will be most effective as a discussion in the home. Most of our time on Wednesday will be spent doing other learning and experiments.
JOURNEYMAN (finish CORE inspirements first):
Record: What did Albert Einstein mean when he said, "Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind." Write what you think in your journal.
Create: Write a poem or song, choreograph a dance, or create a drawing that shows what you've learned and how you feel about science and religion working together. Bring it to show us!
Science, cooking, and Scandinavia: Make a recipe from that has Northern European roots and bring some of it to share! Swedish meatballs, Norwegian porridge or almonds bars, Swiss cheese fondue or muesli? What sounds good to you? We will be making Swedish pancakes as a group during our meeting time. Yum!
